Description:

Chase Corner Wood is a mixed woodland containing some large Scots Pine, Oak, Ash and Sweet Chestnut. The understorey is mainly Birch, Rowan, regenerating Ash and Sweet Chestnut. There is also some very large old Sweet Chestnut coppice stools in places. Quite a surprising diversity that gives this woodland a very interesting feel.

Many areas of the woodland floor are carpeted in the flowers of bluebells and wood anemones in the spring, producing a fantastic display that makes it worth visiting the woodland for this on its own.

The woodland is classified as Ancient Woodland, which means it has had continuous tree cover since 1600. It is full of wildlife including owls, hawks, buzzards, woodcock, a multitude of songbirds and many Fallow deer, including a rare white one.

The access to the woodland is along a good grassy track. It lies at around 150 metres above sea level and the soils are freely draining fertile loams.

Chase Corner Wood has other woodland on two sides, agricultural land on a third and the public highway on the fourth.
